MONUMENT x UTDF
Monument i Up To Date Festival present the project: “Co-curating Electronic Music for the Polish and Norwegian Music Market“.
Being the Up To Date Festival organiser, Pogotowie partnered up with Monument running the Monument City Festival in order to develop a co-curated artistic exchange scheme between Poland- and Norway-based cultural initiatives operating in the electronic music environment. Our networking provides wider access and empowers the artists, while also broadening our audiences.
Thanks to the support of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants, a project titled Co-curating Electronic Music for the Polish and Norwegian Music Market can be completed as part of the Monument City Festival in Norway and Up To Date Festival in Poland in 2023. Our organisations exchange experiences of working in the electronic music sector, providing Norwegian and Polish artists a platform to perform.
OUR GOALS
The aim of the project is to provide new opportunities to 20 Polish, Norwegian, and Ukrainian electronic music artists, visual artists, and experts. It brings support to music initiatives operating at the periphery of big, cultural hubs, promoting electronic music in cultural peripheries and providing better working and living opportunities for music professionals and equal access and participation to cultural activities for audiences, thus working towards geographical and economic inclusion.
Our two festivals will host in all four music activities, each embedded into their overall programme. Parts of the festivals’ programmes completed with the support of the EEA and Norway Grants will be provided to the audience free of charge.
PROGRAMME & ARTISTS
The networking & artistic exchange activities of the Co-curating Electronic Music for the Polish and Norwegian Music Market project happening at the Monument City Festival and Up To Date Festival are co-curated electronic music events – organised as multiple artists’ exchange between Poland and Norway, with additional inclusion of Ukrainian artists, and two music sector seminars & networking events.

NEWS AND PROJECT’S RESULTS
OUR AUDIENCE
The local Polish and Norwegian audiences benefit from not only the enrichment of the artistic exchange and artists’ performances. They are also provided with music educational programme – seminars that can be attended at the music festivals in both locations.
The audience registers to the music sector conferences for free. The registration also gives them free access to the regular music events, making the part of the festivals completed with the support of the EEA and Norway Grants free of charge.
SUPPORTING THE ARTISTS
Our initiative was created in order to increase and protect the diversity of the artistic expression and competence of the European music sector.
We are proud to include the support towards the Ukrainian artists and experts to perform at the music events and share their experience at the music sector conferences. All activities will involve at least four Ukrainian artists.

ABOUT THE GRANT
The project entitled “Co-curating Electronic Music for the Polish and Norwegian Music Market” benefits from a € 29,800 grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants. The aim of the project is to support and provide new opportunities to Polish, Norwegian and Ukrainian electronic music artists, and music initiatives operating at the periphery of bigger cultural hubs. The initiative aims at setting a networking and co-curated artistic exchange scheme between Poland- and Norway-based cultural initiatives operating in the electronic music environment.
EEA GRANTS – WORKING TOGETHER FOR A COMPETITIVE AND INCLUSIVE EUROPE
The EEA and Norway Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.
There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics. The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014.
For the period 2014-2021, the EEA and Norway Grants amount to €2.8 billion. The priorities for this period are:
#1 Innovation, Research, Education and Competitiveness
#2 Social Inclusion, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction
#3 Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy
#4 Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights
#5 Justice and Home Affairs
Eligibility for the Grants mirror the criteria set for the EU Cohesion Fund aimed at member countries where the Gross National Income (GNI) per inhabitant is less than 90% of the EU average.
The EEA and Norway Grants scheme consists of two financial mechanisms. The EEA Grants are jointly financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, whose contributions are based on their GDP. Norway Grants are financed solely by Norway.
