Second artists announcement is here!
We know all the artists coming to Białystok this year for the 14th Up to Date Festival. The 2023 edition takes place between 23-24th June and goes back to the roots of the rave culture with a secret location formula and a heavily electronic lineup. Two day passes are available via Going. and Resident Advisor.
Up to Date 2023 brings many changes. First, there’s a new, mysterious venue. Then, there’s new dates and the open air character. It’s a great opportunity to start afresh and rethink many aspects of the organisation process. One of the first steps the festival can already reveal is the attempt to reduce its carbon footprint. Thanks to the collaboration with Electrum group, Up to Date is working on a long-term plan for making the event more nature friendly. For starters, we’ve already reduced the number of flights by 15% and started upcycling the stage designs from last year.
As promised, the festival is not only focused on dance music and there will be a strong lineup of music blurring the lines between ambient, electronic and experimental sounds. Anthony Child will play at the festival twice. We’ve already announced his show as Surgeon, but he will also be joined by Daniel Bean to present The Transcendence Orchestra ceremony. It’s a psychedelic project researching the influence of sounds on consciousness. Physics, biology and studying patterns are crucial for upsammy, who will present her new album on PAN as a live A/V show with Jonathan Castro. A more emotional take on genre experimentation comes from bvdub and Joachim Spieth. The former is one of the most prolific artists ever, working on enriching many genres like dub or trance with his own sound. The latter comes from the minimal scene and has spent his whole career on reducing sounds to pure emotions. Henrii Havaas will open the festival with a special ambient DJ set.
The majestic sounds and dissolve of genre borders can also describe many projects from the techno part of the lineup. Błażej Malinowski and RTMTS will present Keen Distress, a new project built around avant-garde techniques and glitched rhythms. Two Kyiv artists are bringing abstract sounds: NFNR and Syncøpe. It’s hard to describe with genres what Gosha Savage does as well. Hypnotic sounds will come from Launaea and Aksamit who will play b2b with Lara Palmer. A different type of trance-incuding sounds will be brought by Azu Tiwaline whose sense of rhythm is rooted in Berber culture. Berlin artist Chontane will join Cranz for a b2b of heavier, razor sharp techno, while the creme de la creme of US underground—Antenes and Erika—bring on raw grooves and electro.
Minimalism and elegant grayscale sounds will be contrasted by acts from the ever-changing bass scene. The self-proclaimed king of blends Teki Latex is well known for his unique, genre-breaking mixes. Stalwarts of the current young Polish scene, Bambi Uzi and Glassz will play b2b with Hooversound-affiliated Nova Cheq and Amsterdam’s Boiler Room Festival curator mad miran respectively. ALLG will showcase the ghetto house, electro and jungle side of bass b2b with gummi.
This year’s Up to Date Festival is presented in partnership with Norway’s Monument Festival who co-present the shows by Lara Palmer, Henrii Havaas, Keen Distress, Moonlight Resort & SPA and Igor Glushko. Both techno events will also present visual arts together and organise an international conference to discuss festival’s responsibilities towards nature. The Monument and Up to Date Festival cooperation was made possible thanks to EEA Grants and Norway Grants.
Festival passes are available via Going. and Resident Advisor. Early Birds passes are sold out, while Spring passes are available for 290 PLN only until 10th May. One day passes are available for 145 PLN, their prices will rise after 10th May as well. Detailed lineup will be announced soon.
